Wiltgen, Micheal (b. 1862), Clark County, Wisconsin History & Genealogy

Michael Wiltgen is a Wisconsin boy, having been born in Ozaukee county, this state, July 8th, 1862, and residing there and attending the district school until 1879, when he removed to Marshfield, Wis., and followed successfully the vocations of carpenter, proprietor of a skating rink and totel and saloon keeper. In July, 1888, Mr. Wiltgen removed to Eagle River and removing to Thorpe, Clark County, Wisconsin, purchased the stock of furniture and jewelry of the late Michael Mertins, and is now one of the solid substantial business men of Thorp. Mr. Wiltgen is a German by descent, a sober, industrious, straightforward and thorough going business man and a valuable acquisition to the business interest of Thorp, Wisconsin.

I just was surprised that your descendant are coming from Germany because Wiltgen is a real usual name or current name in Luxembourg one of the smallest countries in Europe. maybe your also a Luxembourger a hope you and your family enjoy a good new year J. My Wiltgen relatives came from Luxembourg to Ozaukee County, Wisconsin prior to 1848. I am directly related to a William (Wilhelm) Wiltgen who was born around 1820 in Lux. He married an Maria Martin in 1848.

I have Wiltgen ancestors. Michael and Elisabeth Wiltgen and their four oldest children, all from Luxemburg, settled near Port Washington, WI before 1854. Their fifth child, Katherine Wiltgen, was born there in October of 1854 or 1855. She married Henry Faber in 1873 and they moved to Iowa. Their oldest child, Marie Faber, was my great grandmother. I met some Wiltgens in Brazil and found we are related. It's an interesting story. Their family history book goes back to the 1400's when the Wiltgens came from Scandinavia to live in Luxemburg. The names are all given in a Latin format. The info was copied from church records in Luxemburg, all of which were destroyed by fire in the first world war. The book is printed in old German type, so it's a bit hard to read.

I am originally from Marshfield, WI. My dad said he could trace our roots back to a John the Baptist Wiltgen who once lived in Port Washington and to a Nicolas Wiltgen. Is this any relation?

I am not related to the Wiltgen family, but do volunteer work for this Clark, Co., WI ALHN (American Local History Network) website. I was born in Marshfield, son of John A. Wiltgen who farmed in the city. My dad was born in the 1890's. I know little of his family history. He had mentioned Port Washington as a place his dad May have immigrated to from Luxembourg. A Larry Wiltgen of Shawano noted a relationship to a Sampson family through marriage and has a family history of Wiltgens traced back to Port Washington and Luxembourg. I know my dad's dad' wife died and he remarried a Kohlbeck

My Hirn family has a John B. Wiltgen that married a Cecilia Hirn in the late 1860's. Any connection. The Hirn's were from Belgium, WI. Thanks, John Hirn

I have been doing extensive research and I believe John B (Jean B) is the son of Charles (1811) and Anna (1813) N. Wiltgen who came to WI between 1855-1860.. I am trying to find a connection with Charles and his possible brothers? Michael (1822), Wilhelm/William (1820), and Pierre (1813. Do you know of a connection or even who was Charles' father?
