On Monday of last week, May 2, 1910, John Asa Scovel died at his home about 5 miles northeast of this city and in the town of Beaver, Clark County, Wis. He was born in the state of New York, in the village of Stockton, on the 4th day of March 1842, moving with his parents from there to Minnesota, where he remained until 1878, when he came to Wisconsin, living at the old home where he died.

He was a member of Co. A. 2nd regiment mounted rangers of Minnesota and served his country faithfully and well all during the campaign. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Oleson in Minnesota, to who was born seven children, four daughters and one son mourning him.

Mr. Scovel was baptized, christened and brought up as a strong believer in the Baptist faith. He was a hard worker and loved his wife and family. The funeral services were largely attended by sympathizing friends and were conducted at the Baptist Church in this city Saturday afternoon by the Rev. S.E. Sweet, short services only being held at the home. The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
