MAR 1842 - 2 May 1910) On Monday of last
week, May 2, 1910, John Asa Scovel died at his home about 5 miles
northeast of this city and in the town of Beaver, Clark County,
Wis. He was born in the state of New York, in the village of
Stockton, on the 4th day of March 1842, moving with his parents
from there to Minnesota, where he remained until 1878, when he came
to Wisconsin, living at the old home where he died. He was a member of
Co. A. 2nd regiment mounted rangers of Minnesota and served his
country faithfully and well all during the campaign. In 1867 he was
united in marriage to Miss Mary Ann Oleson in Minnesota, to who was
born seven children, four daughters and one son mourning him. Mr. Scovel was
baptized, christened and brought up as a strong believer in the
Baptist faith. He was a hard worker and loved his wife and family.
The funeral services were largely attended by sympathizing friends
and were conducted at the Baptist Church in this city Saturday
afternoon by the Rev. S.E. Sweet, short services only being held at
the home. The remains were laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.
