Cook, Phoebe A. (1852 - 25 May 1921)

Miss Phoebe Ann Hubble was born in Hastings Co., Ontario, Canada in 1852. She was united in marriage to Dan Cook Sept. 23, 1873. In 1884 they moved to Wisconsin and settled on a farm in the town of Eaton, Clark County, Wis., where they resided until about two years ago.

Last October Mr. and Mrs. Cook went out west for a visit with their children and many former Wisconsin friends. Mrs. Cook was taken suddenly ill last Wednesday, May 25 and died within two hours at the home of her son at Pinehurst, Wash.

The body was brought to Greenwood for burial, the funeral taking place from Bishops undertaking parlors yesterday afternoon. Mr. James Fradette read Thanatopsis at the grave. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Deceased was a kind and loving wife and mother and had a host of friends, both here and in the western states.

While out west, the cooks visited their son and many friends at Jamestown, N.D. Here she was held in high esteem and her friends gave many beautiful floral offerings as a last token of respect.

Deceased leaves her husband and the following children: Mrs. Lodima Steinburg of Swalwell, Alberta, Canada; Mrs. Essylith Andrews of Greenwood, Wis.; Mrs. Charlotte Mathison of Mosher, Ore.; Lyuph Cook of Pinehurst, Wash.; Mrs. Letelsia Peterson of Everett, Wash.; Marner Cook of Jamestown, N.D.; Harrison Cook, now in service on the Panama Canal and Mrs. Blanch Harnack of Little Black, Wis. Ira Cook died about four years ago and one child died in infancy. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many other relatives and a host of friends.

Before the body was brought back to Greenwood for burial, services were also held at Everett, Wash., where many former Greenwood and other friends were in attendance.

Those from away to attend the funeral were: Hezika Hubble of Beach, N.D., Marner Cook of Jamestown, N.D. and Mr. and Mrs. Harnack and family of Little Black, Wis.

Phoebe A. Cook was my great grandmother. Her daughter (Lodema Stenberg) was married to my Grandfather (Charles M. Stenberg). Note that the obituary has Lodema Stenberg mispelled!

Dan Cook(e) was my great uncle after whom my father was named. His brother George( my great grandfather ) is buried in the Clarke-Eggleton Cemetery near where we live. Phoebe Hubble was probably born north west of Stirling where many Hubbles still reside.
