(15 Sep 1851 - 28 Sep 1922) After an illness
of long duration, John A Stafford died at his home in this city
(Greenwood, Clark County, Wis.), Thursday, Sept. 28, 1922, the
cause of his death being cancer of the stomach. Deceased was born
at Mineral Point, Wis., Sept. 15, 1851. On July 4, 1873 he was
united in marriage to Miss Charlotte Bovee in Jackson Co. In 1884
they came to Greenwood, Wis., at first living in the city and then
on a farm southwest of Greenwood, now the Copeland place. In 11909
they again moved to the city, where he lived until his death. Three children
were born to Mr. and Mrs. Stafford, one son, Alex, dying when 4
years old. He leaves his
beloved wife and two sons, J.M. Stafford in Washington and Elmer
Stafford living on a farm east of this city. He also leaves one
brother who is seriously ill at his home in Pine Island, Minn.,
besides other relatives and friends. John A. Stafford
was one of the best known residents of this city and was a man
well-like by all. The funeral was
held from the local M.E. Church last Saturday afternoon, Rev.
Bickell officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Greenwood
Cemetery. Relatives here
from out of town to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Bennet of Pigeon Creek; John Bovee, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Bovee and
Mrs. Len Bovee of Fairchild.
