County Republican & Press (Neillsville, Wis.) 07/21/1921 Tolford, Julia E.
(27 Sep 1837 - 10 Jul 1921) Mrs. Julia Tolford
died at the home of her son, R.H. Tolford, Sunday, July 10, 1921,
after a short illness. She was born Julia E. Jewett at Keysville,
Essex Co., N.Y., Sept. 27, 1837, and was 83 years, 10 months and 13
days old at the time of her death. She removed with her parents to
Beloit, Wis., at an early age and there she grew to womanhood. She
was married to J.W. Tolford at Madison, Sept. 28, 1858; and resided
there until 1872, when they moved to Neillsville, Clark County,
Wis. That place continued to be their home until her husband died
in 1913, when she came to Thorp and made her home with her son. Her ancestors came
to America early in its history and some of them fought in the
Revolutionary War. She was for many years a member of the Eastern
Star at Neillsville, where the most of her active years were spent,
and where she made and kept a host of friends. She was of a
retiring disposition, but was a devoted wife and mother. She was
the mother of six children, two of whom died during the Civil War,
two since that time and two are surviving, R.H. of Thorp and J.W.
of San Francisco. The funeral service was conducted at the
residence Monday afternoon, Rev. Geo. H. Crow officiating, after
which the remains were taken to Madison for burial in the family
lot, accompanied by Mr. Tolford and son, Frank Tolford. (Thorp
