County Republican & Press (Neillsville, Wis.) 10/06/1921 Carter, Harold (17
JUL 1904 - 2 OCT 1921) The sad news
reached here Monday that Harold Carter, youngest son of Mr. and
Mrs. Henry Carter formerly of the town of Grant, Clark County,
Wis., was drowned Sunday at Sand Lake, about 7 miles from Candon.
He was out on the lake in a metal boat and a strong wind came up,
filling the boat with water, causing it to sink, Harold going down
with it. Others were out on the lake with boats and tried to come
to his rescue, but were too late. Harold was 17
years of age and was born in the town of Grant July 17, 1904, going
with his parents to Crandon, when they moved there. He was a fine
boy and greatly liked by all who knew him. He was a junior in high
school. He was a boy of good habits, industrious, thrifty, and
helpful at home. He is survived by his parents, three brothers,
Lyle, Lester and Walter, and one sister, Mrs. Ervin Poppe, all of
Crandon. His remains arrive here Tuesday, accompanied by his
brother Lyle, the other members of the family arriving by auto
Wednesday. The funeral is held this Thursday afternoon at the
Pleasant Ridge Church, Rev. Walter Trench Scott officiating. The
greatest sympathy is felt in this community for the bereaved
family.
