Scharf, Donald E. (6 Dec 1930 - 26 OCT 2002)

Donald E. Scharf, 71, Granton, Clark County, Wis., died on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at his home. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., on Tues-day, Oct. 29, at the Zion American Lutheran Church, Granton. Music was provided by Marjorie Dahl, organist. The Rev. David Johnson officiated. Burial was in the Zion American Lutheran Church Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Neillsville Veterans Council. Pallbearers were Ryan Langreck, Dana Klein, Dawn Klein, Matt Brundidge, Jeff Young, Jerry Young and Bran-don Young.

Donald Edward Scharf was born on Dec. 6, 1930, in the town of Grant. He attended School in Chicago and graduated from Granton High School. He then attended and graduated from the DeVry Technical School in Illinois. In 1951, he was enlisted into the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He began working as a television repairman in 1956 in the Granton area. He married Geraldine "Gerry" Fay Elmhorst on June 7, 1958, at the Zion Lutheran Missouri Synod Church, Granton. He continued working as a television repairman until 1960 when he began working as a woodsman. He continued working full time until 1992 when he retired and worked part time as a security guard at Fleet Farm, Marshfield. He was a member of the Zion American Lutheran Church, Granton. His interests included fishing, traveling and the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Fay Elmhorst Scharf; five children, Alan D. Scharf, Marshfield, Faye E. (Kevin) Klein, Granton, Tami L. (Shannon) Young, Granton, Dona J. (Mike) Brundidge, Spencer, and Dyan M. (Wayne) Friemoth, Neillsville; 11 grandchildren, Dana, Dawn, Deann and Devin Klein, Brandon, Jeff and Jerry Young, Sarah, Matt and Alex Brundidge, and Austin Friemoth; one sister, Florence (Dick) Wallace, Beloit; and his mother-in-law, Christine Elmhorst, Neillsville.

Preceding him in death were his son, Gary E. Scharf, in 1998; and his mother, Edna Jahnke, in 1995.

The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
