Schultz, Lawrence H. (27 Jan 1914 - 4 Dec 2002)

Lawrence H. Schultz, 88, Granton, died on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at his home in the town of York. Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 7, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. The Rev. Roman Kaiser officiated. Full military rites were accorded by the Neillsville American Legion Post #75. Burial was in St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Chili. Pallbearers were Jason Schultz, Kevin Schultz, Matthew Schultz, Timothy Schultz, John Schaak, Steven Cutchins, Matt Frey and Dave Lavey.

Lawrence Henry Schultz was born on Jan. 27, 1914, in Veefkind, to Lowell Henry and Ida (nee Guetschow) Schultz. He graduated from McKinley High School, Marshfield, in 1933. After his education, he farmed with his family in Veefkind until he entered the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in the European Theatre during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945, he worked as a cheesemaker. He married Helen Y. Rosandich on May 15, 1948, at the parsonage of the Corpus Christi Church, Bakerville. They moved to Wisconsin Rapids, where he worked at a paper mill for five years. They then farmed in the Granton and Spencer areas until he went to work for Western Condensing, Marshfield, as an evaporator operator, in 1958. He worked there until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Neillsville American Legion Post #75, the National Rifle Association and the Local Teamsters Union #662. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Chili, until it closed, at which time he became a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Loyal. His interests included traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, and following his grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, Granton; five children, Stephen (Mary Jane) Schultz, Sumter, S.C., Melanie (Hazel) Pack, Sumter, S.C., Lowell (Linda) Schultz, Nasonville, Michael (Coleen) Schultz, Granton, and Lawrence (Shelly) Schultz, Spencer; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Kim) Schultz, Kevin (Sarah) Schultz, Jenny Schultz, Matthew Schultz, Elizabeth Schultz, Kimberly Schultz, Timothy Schultz, Ellie Rose Pack, Jillian Pack, Jennifer (Matt) Frey, Wendy (Steven) Cutchins and Katelyn Schultz; one sister, Alice Guttman, Marshfield; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Kenneth G. Schultz, in 1962; and one brother, Howard Schultz.

Cuddie Funeral Home, Loyal assisted the family with arrangements.
