Herbert R. Kurth, 91, Neillsville, died on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at his home. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 10, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville. Music was provided by Sharon Nemitz. The Rev. Timothy Biebert officiated. Burial was in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lance Gregorich, Laverne Gregorich Jr., Lee Gregorich, Leon Gregorich, Andrew Opelt and Eric Opelt.
Herbert Rudolph Kurth was born on Dec. 21, 1911, in Neillsville, to Fred and Emma (nee Steinberg) Kurth. He received his education in Neillsville and graduated from Neillsville High School in 1930. He married Alice Scharenbrock on June 18, 1938, in Chicago. They lived in Sauk City and Mauston before moving back to Neillsville in October 1944. He drove semi truck for 15 years. He also worked at Rychnovsky Bros. as a partsman and he worked for the Clark County Highway Department from 1956-76 as a stock clerk. He was a member of the Neillsville Volunteer Fire Department and St. John’s Lutheran Church. His interests included cutting firewood, fishing, picking wild berries and spending time at his cottage at Stone Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
The Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, assisted the family with arrangements.
