HALES, GEORGE
George Hales was born in 1887 to Albert W. and Maggie Hales at the parental home. He attended the Merry Vale School and dairy farmed the same farm for 64 years, which he purchased in 1911. This had been his grandparents Smithers' farm. He was secretary-treasurer of the York Dairy Cheese Factory from 1927 to 1930, enjoyed fishing, hunting, blackberrying and making maple syrup. He married Mary Krejci in 1911 and they raised two daughters, Verona (Hainz) and Marion (Heitt). They belonged to the York Center Community Club and were affiliated with the York Center Methodist church. George used only Ford cars and tractors. He passed away in 1973 and Mary in 1978.
