Gill, John (25 JUL 1842 - 3 Jun 1917)

John Gill, formerly a resident of this locality, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.C. Hanson, at Waupaca, Jun 3, 1917. Mr. Gill was born in England July 25, 1842 and came to America when 14 years of age. His family settled in Pennsylvania, where he grew up and enlisted in a Pennsylvania regiment in the Civil War, where he served 3 years and 9 months. After the war he came to Wisconsin and settled in Jackson Co. About 35 years ago they came to Clark County, Wis. and bought a farm in the town of Levis, where they lived for a number of years. Later they moved to Jackson Co. on a farm. A few years ago they bought a home in Neillsville, living here for a time, and then going to the Veterans home in Waupaca. Five years ago his wife died at the Home.

Mr. Gill was a much respected citizen and well liked by all who knew him. He was a good soldier and a good citizen. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Gill: Hannah, Mrs. J.C. Hanson, of Waupaca; Nellie, Mrs. Wm. Oldham, now deceased, and Frank, who died at Osseo April 5th of this year. There are also 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Deceased was buried at Waupaca in the Veterans Cemetery beside his wife.
