Private John Bruny, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gottlieb Bruny, was born at Columbia, Wis., July 20, 1897. He stayed in Neillsville, Clark County, Wis. for some time and later on he went to Camp Douglas with Co. A of Neillsville. From Camp Douglas he went to Waco, Texas. He left Waco, Texas about the first part of February and he then went to New Jersey. Later on he went to France, and was there but a short time when he got diphtheria and died on March 11, 1918. He leaves to mourn his death four brothers: Sam, with the Army in France; Edward, Fred of Minot, N.D. and Jake. Also five sisters: Mary, Mrs. Louie Goldamer, of Alberta, Canada; Emma, Mrs. Forest Campbell, of St. Paul, Minn.; Clara, Annie and rosie, also his father and mother. He was loved by all who knew him.
He was a bright brave boy and made friends wherever he went. The brave young hero gave his life up for his country. The last mail his folks received was a card saying when they received the card he would be "safely over the pond."
