CONTEST FINALS

The Rural SchooL Day, held last Thursday, May 12, and inaugurated as an annual event which will be held every spring at the high school, is acclaimed as having been very successful.

More than 300 rural youngsters participated in the many events which were offered. At least 200 took part in the various judging and identification contests. More than 200 paraded in the "Pet Parade", and over 300 attended the movie 'Treasure Island". The evening program was attended by at least 300 persons.

Mr. Gehrman, manager of the local theatre, gave the Future Farmer Chapter $15.00 of the proceeds on the movie. Mr. Neuenfeldt printed 1000 programs with no charge to the chapter. The evening prograan netted the chapter about $13.00. With the funds, which were received from these two sources, the boys will pay the balance of the debt which is owed on the camping trailer.

Thirty-five dollars was given away as awards to the winners in the various events.

Mel, Clayton and I graduated from the 8th grade in 1935 and from high school in 1939. My annual was mislaid during our recent move. It is my guess that the picture of the FFA (above) was taken in 1937. I contacted Esther (Neilsen) Hegenbarth. She's mislaid her album too.

Robert Mason was a year behind us in grade school. Merlin Horn was from Chili, WI, and he stayed with a family in Greenwood when he was in high school.

I remember hearing about Rural School Day when I was in Benjamin grade school, which I attended for eight years.
