COURIER (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 12/13/1889 Vandercook, Edward
M. (1862 - 29 Nov 1889) Edward M.
Vandercook, associate editor of the Spencer Tribune (Spencer, Wis.)
until failing health obliged him to relinquish his labors about a
year ago, died at the home of his aunt in Lodi, Wis., on Friday,
Nov. 29th, 1889, aged twenty-seven years, of lung and kidney
disease, and was buried at Spencer on Monday the 2nd inst. Being a
member of Spencer Lodge I. O. O. F., that body had charge of the
funeral, Rev. J. Foster delivering the sermon. Members from
Marshfield, Unity, Colby and the home lodge, to the number of about
seventy-five, escorted the remains to the grave. His mother,
brothers, Gilbert and Henry, and sister, Carrie, have indeed been
called upon to suffer a great loss. Ed's cheerfulness at all times,
though suffering much of the past two years, was remarkable. The
family loses a truly devoted son and brother, his acquaintances an
honest steadfast friend, whose death occurring in the very prime of
manhood, is a sad event. It but teaches us another lesson as to the
frailty of our existence. Without an enemy in the world, and
beloved by all his acquaintances, he represented all that was true
and noble as a man. May he rest in peace. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
