Grimes, 87, Owen, died at home on Jan. 15, 2003. Following
cremation, memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday,
Jan. 25, 2003, at the United Church of Christ in Owen. Interment
will be at Riverside Cemetery. The former Mildred
(Millie) Thorson was born on July 14, 1915, in Withee, Clark
County, Wis.the daughter of Tobias and Bertha Helen (Erickson)
Thorson. She attended Spring Valley Grade School and graduated from
Withee High School in 1933. Prior to her marriage she was employed
at the Woodland Hotel in Owen. Mildred and Shurleigh Grimes were
united in marriage on January 20th, 1938, and made their home in
Owen. Millie was a
long-standing member of the United Church of Christ and was active
in Women's Fellowship. She joined Chapter No. 274, Order of the
Eastern Star in 1941, holding offices including Worthy Matron and
Marshall. She was honored as a fifty year member in 1991. Millie was a
devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her
kitchen always welcomed you with the aroma of wonderful baking,
especially dark bread and her famous angel food cake. She is survived by
daughters Jane Grimes and Joan (Joe) Rogers; grandson Tim (Rebecca)
Altenburg, great-grandsons, Austin and Ethan of Woodbury, Minn.;
granddaughter Wendy (Tony) Biel, and great-grandsons, Adam, Dillon
and Burleigh of Delano, Minn. Preceding her in
death by her parents; son, Jerry; husband Shurleigh; eight sisters
