(31 Jul 1817 - 12 Apr 1895) Clark C. Monroe
died at his residence in this village (Thorp, Clark Co., Wis.) on
the 12th inst., of pneumonia, aged 77 years. He was born at Alfred,
Allegheny Co., N.Y., July 31, 1817 and was united in marriage with
Elsie Parks of the same place, Aug. 21, 1836. After living happy
together for forty-one years she died. The union was blessed with
seven children, three girls and four boys, Alpha, Marshall, Malona,
Phoebe, Charley, Argalus and Ida, all being dead except two,
Charlie and Argalus,. In 1878 he was again joined in marriage with
Melissa Sharon at Fond du Lac, Wis., who was a kind companion until
his death. He joined the Seventh Day Baptists in about his 20th
year and continued in that faith until five years ago when he
accepted the Adventist faith, in which he was a firm believer until
his death. He was the oldest of four brothers and one sister,
Stilman, Burton, Maxon and Jane, all being dead except Burton and
Maxon. He became a resident of this village in 1886. The funeral
was conducted by Rev. J. B. Bachman on Saturday last from the M. E.
