Owen, formerly of Stanley, died on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at the
Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held
at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 3, at Our Savior’s Lutheran
Church, Stanley. The Rev. William Stewart officiated. Burial was in
East Side Cemetery, Stanley. Members of the Stanley VFW Post served
as pallbearers and conducted military graveside rites. Ernest T. Oyama
was born on Feb. 2, 1932, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Ernest and Ellen
Oyama. He was raised and educated in Hawaii. He served in the U.S.
Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he
attended UW-Stout, where he played football for four years. He
received his bachelor’s degree in industrial education in
1958. He married Shirley Kosar-Amdahl on Sept. 23, 1967, in
Stanley. He taught industrial arts at Stanley-Boyd High School for
33 years, retiring due to ill health in 1991. He served on the Our
Savior’s Lutheran Church Council and the Victory Memorial
Hospital board of directors. He was treasurer for East Side
Cemetery for many years. His interests included singing Hawaiian
