Eckes, Bernard (1 JUL 1915 - 6 Mar 2003)

COLBY, WIS. - Bernard Eckes 88, Marshfield, formerly of Unity, Wis. died Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center in Neillsville.

The funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, March 8, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Colby. Father John Malik will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Eckes, David Alexander, Todd Denzine, Kelley Denzine, Shauna Weinfurtner, and Shannon Walkup. Burial in the spring will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Unity.

Bernard was born July 1, 1915, to Henry and Mary (Korth) Eckes. He served five years in the Air Force during World War II. Bernard and Flora Williamson were united in marriage December 21, 1946. He owned and operated Bernie's Bar in Unity for 10 years, then moved to Chicago. He retired and moved back to Unity before moving to Marshfield. He was a member of Unity American Legion Post 358.

Survivors included his wife Flora Eckes of Marshfield; his son Ronald (Becky) Eckes of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandsons Scott and Bryan and two step grandsons Rick and Nick; one brother Jake (Bonnie) Eckes of Marshfield; two sisters Marcella Hastreiter of Marshfield, and Elinor (Donnie) Kraisin of Marshfield.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister Marie Fochs.
