Brunner, Michael (28 Jan 1841 - 26 Feb 1909)

Michael Brunner, residing northeast of the village (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.), was accidentally killed while doing the evening chores at his farm on Friday last. The sides of a straw stack from which he was engaged in pulling out straw, toppled over, a large mass of icy snow from the top of the stack striking him, ending his life instantly. Mr. Brunner was born in Bavaria, Germany, on Jan. 28, 1841, and was united in marriage in 1864. In 1881 they arrived in this country, settling first at West Bend, Wis., and six years later came to the town of Withee, where they have since resided. Mr. Brunner was a man who united wound sense with strong convictions, and a candid outspoken temper eminently fitted him to mould the rude elements of pioneer life into form and consistency. Deceased leaves a wife and four sons, Mathew of Ashland, Andrew of this village, Michael of Stratford and George of Duluth, all of whom were present at the funeral, which was held from St. Bernard's Church on Tuesday morning, Father Arentz officiating, interment taking place in the Catholic Cemetery.
