Courier (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 10/13/1910 Schroeder, Mrs.
Fred (1860? - 5 OCT 1910) Wednesday morning,
Oct. 5, 1910, shortly after eight o'clock, Mrs. Fred Schroeder,
living one mile southeast of Curtiss, Clark County, Wis., was
instantly killed by passenger train No. 6. She was driving a
one-horse light wagon at the time and was returning from the
Curtiss Creamery, where she had been to deliver milk. The Ladysmith
train was standing on the side track at Curtiss and this apparently
attracted her attention and she did not see the passenger train
approaching from the west. The engine struck just between the horse
and wagon, and the whole outfit was thrown between 60 and 70 feet.
Mrs. Schroeder's remains were found on the north side and the horse
on the south side of the track. Mrs. Schroeder was instantly
killed, her skull being crushed. The horse was also killed and the
wagon demolished. Mrs. Schroeder was
about 50 years old and was the mother of five children. Mr. and
Mrs. Schroeder were among the pioneers of this section. The
bereaved family have the sympathy of all. (Abbotsford Clarion) © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
