Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bartz of Winona are general visitors here.

Miss Alice Wagner has accepted a a position in the Colby schools.

Miss Ella David commenced her school at Dorchester on Monday.

Mrs. Cleveland Beam of Polley is visiting her sister Mrs. Orea Nye.

Mrs. Winnie Rosin and little son went to Amherst Junction on Thursday. Miss Nora Phillippi of Athens is a a guest at the home of her brother John.

Mrs. H. E. Howard entertained the Union Club on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Herman Banderob returned last week from an extended visit to New Holstien.

Rev. J. B. Bachman is appointed pastor in the I. E. Church for an other year.

Mrs. John Norton and daughter Mary started on Tuesday for Nevada, Missouri. Mr. and Mrs. Farber went to Minneapolis on Monday to look over the Minnesota Fair.

Mrs. E. Cordes, who has spent some months in Milwaukee and other places, returned on Friday. Misses Carrie and Adelia Zachow went to Oconto on Tuesday to attend a wedding of some relative. Mrs. Christ Ganzel of Boyd spent a few days in the family of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Straker last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Anton David went to Downing on Sunday to be the guests of their daughter Mrs. Mohr.

Mr. and Mrs. Campbell of Park Falls is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fults. The ladies are sisters.

Mrs. Alma Sterling and little daughter Goldene, returned from a visit with her sister in Kilbourn on Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. John McGrogan are spending the were in Minneapolis in attendance upon the Minnesota State Fair.

Peter Heiser, who has become a traveling man in the threshing machine business, started for Fargo, N. D. last week.

Peter Lauson has been quite sick during the past week and at this writing there seems to be little hope of his recovery.

August Scholz and Hubbard Berth both of Winona came up with R. J. Walsdorf and are guests at he Walsdorf mansion. Mrs. Louis Kolb returned on Saturday from her Milwaukee trip having purchased her stock of goods for fall and winter trade.

Peter Walsdorf went to Kiel on Sunday to visit his mother who has been quite sick in the early summer but who is now restored to health.

Miss Hattie Rhea has resigned her position in the district two miles east of town and accepted a place in the Kilbourn schools of Columbia county.

Inadvertently we failed to notice last week that Mr. and Mrs. Herman Friess had returned from Rice Lake. It is simply criminal in us, as we received a bountiful supply of fish from the proceeds of their excursion.

Thorp schools opened on Monday morning with Frank V. Powells as principal and Miss Ethel C. Upham as assistant principal. The other teachers are Misses Freda K. Dietzler, Edna E. Henning, Mary Christianson, Irma Mertens and Mrs. Alma Sterling. Miss Susan Warner of the town of Thorp and Mr. W. R. Allen of Neillsville were married in Thorp on Wednesday August 31, by Rev. J. B. Bachtnan. All the youngsters of Thorp, and many of the older people congratulate this happy couple and wish them success.

Claus Kolpien and John Evenson of East Worden were callers at the S. S. Warner home Wednesday evening.
