Obit: Steiger, Harvey Everett (1911-2003)

STEIGER, HARVEY EVERETT, died at his home in Glen Carbon, Illinois, on April 22, 2003, after a brief illness; he is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita Macondray Steiger; his son, Macondray John Steiger of Sonoma Valley, California; his son and daughter-in-law, Frederick Macondray and Martha Watkins Steiger of Glen Carbon, Illinois; and their children, Alexander Macondray Steiger and Katherine Anne Steiger. Mr. Steiger was retired from Monsanto Company where he was the Manager of Communications for the Central Engineering Department. Mr. Steiger was born in Greenwood, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelors of Science degree in Economics and Psychology from the University of Idaho and his Masters of Science degree in Economics, Statistics and Sociology from the Uiversity of Minnesota. He served as an Instructor in Economics and Sociology at the University of Kansas and at Stanford University. He was a graduate Teaching Fellow at Stanford University at the beginning of World War II. Mt. Steiger served in the United States Army Air Corps from April, 1942 when he entered as a private, progressed through the ranks to Staff Sergeant, was commissioned as an officer and was discharged as a First Lieutenant in August 1946. Mr. Steiger was a long time member of the Ethical Society of St. Louis. The family advises that there will be no visitation nor memorial services. The body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held later in California. Arrangements where handled by IRWIN Chapel of Glen Carbon.
