Shupe, Elias (31 DEC 1819 - 10 Jul 1898)
Again we are called upon to chronicle the passing from our midst, of an old settler and fellow townsman, Mr. Elias Shupe, who was born in the state of Pennsylvania on December 31, 1819, and died at his home in this village on Sunday, July 10, 1898, being 78 years, six months and 10 days of age at the time of his death.
He removed with his family to Wisconsin in October 1855, settling on a farm, where they resided until the year 1872, when they came to Clark County, Wis.
They settled down in the woods half a mile north of what is now the village of Loyal, at that time not much more than a country crossroads, and proceeded to make themselves a home. Being a hard working man Mr. Shupe soon had a comfortable home and quite a large clearing. Here he remained until eight years ago when he came to this village where he resided until his death. He was an honest, conscientious, hard working man, a good neighbor and upright citizen. He leaves to mourn him his wife, two sons and three daughters and one brother, two years older than himself, who resides in Pennsylvania. Mr. Shupe was the youngest of a family of nine children and his own family consisted of ten children, five of whom have preceded him to the grave.
The funeral was held at the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. T.O. Knudson conducting the last sad rites, and a large number of sorrowing friends and neighbors followed the remains to their last resting place.
