Courier (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) 10/03/1918 Gorman, Simon (19
FEB 1845 - Sep 1918) Tuesday evening
the remains of Simon Gorman were brought to this city from Thorp,
Clark County, Wis. and taken to the Dennis Dwyer home on South
Pearl St. Deceased was born
in Cedarburg, Iowa, Feb. 19, 1845. When a young man he came to
Waupaca Co., Wis. and lived in Lebanon. In his young manhood days
he taught school a few eyars and later entered the mercantile
business in New London with W. D. Carr. In 1869 he married Miss
Mary Dwyer and five children blessed the union. They are Mrs. J. B.
Hagarty, St. Paul, Minn.; Mrs. A. Albert, Thorp; Michael of
Waterloo, Iowa; John G. of Milwaukee, and Walter, who is in France
as a soldier. All except Walter were at the funeral. Brothers and
sisters surviving him are: M. S. Gorman, New London; Mrs. Wm.
Quigley, Charlestown, Mass.; Mrs. Charles Quigley, New London; Mrs.
John Boyle, Prentice. Together with his widow all these are left to
mourn the loss of a man beloved by all who knew him. It was ten months
ago that he was stricken with paralysis and since then he gradually
weakened despite every effort to prolong his life. Nearly 30 years
ago he left New London and went to Thorp and lived a retired life
in that town. He served as mayor for a time and repeatedly refused
places of trust, preferring to keep out of politics. He was a devout
Catholic and on Wednesday his funeral service was conducted by
Father John Kaster at the church of the Most Precious Blood.
Interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery in Lebanon beside loved
ones who have passed away. (Press, New London) © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
