Nye, Melvin (OCT 1844 - 2 Feb 1920)
Melvin Nye died at his home here (Thorp, Clark County, Wis.) on Monday, Feb. 2, 1920, of pneumonia, after an illness of about five days. He was born in the town of Clinton, Kennebec Co., Maine, in Oct. 1844. After reaching the age of thirty years he came to Wisconsin and was employed in the woods and on Wolf River for several years. In 1882 he associated himself with H. F. Hudson and George H. Lusk and purchased the sawmill here and this place has been his home since that time. He commanded the respect of all sects and classes of people. He was industrious and frugal in his habits, active and energetic, both mentally and physically. His convictions were honest and sincere, resulting from careful study and analysis on his part, and with which he calmly met the fate of all flesh.
He leaves a wife and two sons, two brothers and two sisters, also a multitude of friends. The funeral takes place today at two p.m. from the residence, Rev. George Crow officiating, interment in the Thorp Village Cemetery.
