COUNTY PRESS (Neillsville, Clark County, Wis.) 12/26/1874 Gary, William
(1851? - 25 Dec 1874) The annual list of
casualties in the woods was commenced yesterday by the
instantaneous death of William Gary of the town of Lynn, Clark
County, Wis. He was engaged in unloading a logging sled at a
landing in that town. Standing astride of the runner of the forward
sled while rolling the last log off, its weight on the end of the
beam suddenly canted the sled over with considerable force,
throwing him off his balance and head first under the runner. The
log clearing the sled, the ponderous runner came down with full
force upon his head, completely crushing it, and killing him
instantly. Mr. Gary was a
most estimable and promising young man, the son of John Gary of
Lynn, single and aged about 23 years. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
