70 Years Ago, Dec. 23, 1932 The scheduled league game between Thorp High School and Stanley High, which was to have been played tonight at Thorp, has been cancelled due to the fact that six of Coach McKay's men are in bed with the flu. The game will be played at some later date.
60 Years Ago, Dec. 25, 1942 The 50th anniversary of the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. John Ecklor was observed at the family home on Dec. 13. John Ecklor and Margaret Romaine were married at Augusta on Dec. 10, 1892.
50 Years Ago, Dec. 25, 1952 Robert L. Frazee received the gold bars of a second lieutenant from Company Commander Lieutenant Joseph Pawlak, in a fitting ceremony held before the assembled Company G at the National Guard Armory on Monday evening.
25 Years Ago, December 22, 1977 The Stanley Farmers Store will end its operation in Stanley when they close their doors for the last time at noon on Dec. 24. The Stanley store was one of two remaining in what at one time was a chain of many stores. The Eau Claire store will be the only one open after Saturday. There are no immediate plans for the building. Miss Wisconsin 1977, Jennifer Woychik, Arcadia, was on hand for the grand opening of Janet Booth's new business, the Jean Joint, on Friday.
