Will Waterman, an ex-Confederate soldier residing in this county, who had the misfortune to lose an arm in a bad cause, recently took a contract to build seventy rods of road. The road is through a district heavily timbered, and is to be cut but four rods wide. He commenced work on the same a little over a week ago, and without assistance, has already finished about twenty rods of his job. For a single-handed chopper, we think. Waterman excels, and if he manifested the same pluck in the army that he has since he came to this county, he must have done good service as a Jonnie. His efforts to make an honorable living entitle him to the respect of any community.

From Mr. John S. Dore we learn that a species of wire-worm is doing great damage to spring wheat in some localities. It destroys the plant by cutting it off at the first joint above the ground.
