Schmidtke, Henry (19 NOV 1863 - 18 Apr 1907)

Henry Schmidtke died at his home in the town of Fremont, Clark County, Wis. on Thursday, April 18, 1907, from injuries he received the day before by a wagon and load of hay running over him, at the age of forty-three years, four months and twenty-eight days.

The deceased was born on Nov. 19, 1863, in Koeingsberg, Germany. He lived on the farm he occupied when he died for seventeen years. He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, twelve children, seven boys and five girls, and other relatives.

He was a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father; to his sisters a tender brother, to his friends the soul of fellowship, but the greatest of all was he was a man, and as a man it is that those who knew him most love to contemplate.

Thus over a happy home the shadow of a grave has fallen; and as another has said, it is wonderful how long a shadow a grave can throw. To the sorrowing wife and children we extend our sympathy.

The funeral services were held at the hose on Sunday afternoon at half past twelve, Rev. J. F. Bryan of this village officiating, and was largely attended by relatives and neighbors of the deceased.
