Alfred Zielanis

Alfred J. Zielanis, age 88, of Thorp, died at Victory Medical Center in Stanley, on Sunday, December 9, 2001.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2001, at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Father John Puerner will officiate and burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Withee. Visitation will be held at Thorp Funeral Home on Thursday, December 13, 2001 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary Service.

Alfred Jospeh Zielanis was born on November 6, 1913 in Thorp to Joseph and Katherine (Giojna) Zielanis. He was raised on the family farm and educated at Pineland School. As a young man, Alfred worked as a logger, for a couple of years, in the Perkinstown area. He then moved to Chicago and worked for American Can Company. On December 27, 1942; Alfred was united in marriage to Pauline Hodorowski in Schaumburg, IL. They moved to Thorp, in 1943, to help his parent’s farm and eventually took over the operation of the farm. While on the farm, he served as the Town of Withee Supervisor and the Chairman of Pineland School for many years. Alfred also operated a sawmill; across the road from his farm, with his brother Zip for ten years; He retired from farming in 1973 and built a home five miles east of Thorp where he has resided until the time of his death. Alfred was a member of at St. Bernard’s-St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church and enjoyed woodworking, woodcrafts, fishing, hunting, gardening and traveling.

He is survived by his wife Pauline of Thorp; four daughters" Patricia (Walter) Wyczawski of Richfield, WI, Dr. Arlene (Dr. Robert) Fulton of Stillwater, OK., Katherine (Michael) Geneline of New Brighton, MN, Joanne Eide of Burnsville, MN; eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren; one brother Stanley Zielanis of Kiel, WI; and three sisters: Anne Hillery of Chippewa Falls, WI, Elvina Summers of Thorp, WI, Jeanette (Lawrence) Huff of Greenwood, AR.

He was preceded in death by his parents: one brother Leon "Zip" Zielanis and one sister Helen Monser.
