On Monday last Dr. Crandall was called to examine a wound inflicted on the foot of William Seely, by himself, while cutting wood for Oscar Sprague, east of this place. He found the wound to be a very severe one the bones and ligaments of the foot having been severed, by the glancing of an ax, from the second joint of the great-toe to the instep. The wound amounts almost to the severing of the foot, which is only held together by a strip of skin on either side. The wound is a very serious one, and one that, at the last, will cost him a summer of leisure.

The committee appointed by the electors of the town of Loyal at their last town meeting to investigate the financial officers of that town, has been in session this week - a part of the time in this village - and has completed its work so far as to make a full statement of the true amount to be charged against the ex-treasurer, impossible as the work seemed on the start on account of the loss of the town records. The committee is now engaged in tracing the credits due, which is not the least difficult part of its task. It is expected that the report will be completed and published in about two weeks.

The sewer war which interested a few of the citizens on Second street, and was at its fiercest the latter part of last week, ended in the filling up a part of the sewer. For some time past the sewer has been a bone of contention, and an undoubted nuisance to the O’Neill House, at the southwest corner of which it emptied its filth into the street, and the residents of that part of the town will not regret that the matter has been brought to notice. Its continuation to the creek, however, is more to be desired, and would undoubtedly result in more benefit to property-owners in that locality and the place in general, that its close.

John Holtz, one of the ballast gang on W. & m. road was thrown from a hand car, near Withee, last evening, June 21st, by the breaking of one of the handles of the crank. He was completely doubled up underneath the car and received some very severe injuries. Doctor Beach was summoned and amputated one toe of the left foot, which was badly crashed, and fixed the man up generally.
