The town board of health publish a notice in to-day’s REPUBLICAN AND PRESS which, if that body means what it promulgates, May be worthy of perusal by those of our citizens which have been in the habit of using (unreadable) Creek as a burial place for dead animals and a receptacle for all refuse liable to become offensive. For some time past the offensive odors complained of by residents in that part of the place have been supposed to emanate from the slaughter house, but an investigation made the first of the week shows that while that institution has contributed its share to the damnable smells that have been sent up from those parts, there were other agents in the shape of filth deposited in that stream that helped to make the awful smell of which complaint has so frequently been made.

An adjourned meeting to consider the proposition to have the school building heated by furnace will be held at the School-house in this village, next Monday evening. The committee appointed to ascertain the cost of the proposed change have received a proposition from responsible parties to put in three furnaces and the necessary registers for $870.80, the contracting parties guaranteeing that the heating shall be perfect, and that the temperature of the building when heated shall not vary.

Since our last issue, Viola Eaton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Eaton, of Greenwood, whose illness we reported last week as having at that time been favorable to a recovery, has been much worse and for a day or two her recovery was again regarded as almost hopeless, but a more favorable turn the first of the week, again assures her recovery. The protracted sickness of their child together with the intense suffering she has had to endure, has been a trying ordeal for Mr. and Mrs. Eaton, in which they have the sympathy of their many friends.
