E. B. Brown, a resident of this town, who shot Fred Drake, of the town of Hewett about two years ago, at a party, and who was convicted of assault with intent to kill at the September, 1880, term of the Circuit Court for this County and sentenced to the State Prison at Waupun, for one year, returned to his home near this place last Friday. He expresses himself well pleased with the treatment received while in the service of the state, and as the crime for which he was sentenced was the result of hasty action while angered by real or supposed insult offered by the party assaulted, and upon whom he was enabled to wipe out the said insult through the pernicious practice of carrying a "pop." The community at large do not appear to attach to him the stigma that usually follows the convict upon his restoration to liberty.
