Heath, Edwin (21 JAN 1832 - 16 Sep 1909)

Death has once more entered our village and taken one of its oldest residents. Edwin Heath died Thursday at 10:30 o'clock after an illness of two weeks, during which time there were days of most intense agony for him. For years he has suffered sick spells from various causes, heart disease being the most frequent, but the last illness was caused by an infection of the kidneys and gall bladder. This time his case was beyond the power of medical skill and the loving ministrations of his devoted family.

Mr. Heath was born in the town of Malone, N.Y., on Jan. 21, 1832. At the age of seventeen he came to Wisconsin with his parents. In the early years of his manhood he passed through many interesting and exciting experiences, having twice driven from Waupun, Wis. across the plains to Colorado, and to hear him repeat tales of his western life was like reading a book of adventures. In May 1876 he moved to Spencer, Wis. with his family and engaged in the drug business, continuing in that business until a few years ago when his failing health unfitted him for the occupation. His friendly, genial manners won him many friends and by his long residence here no man in this vicinity was more widely known or possessed warmer friends than he. He is survived by his wife and three sons, Frank, Grant and Edward of Spencer, and two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Damon of Spencer and Mrs. Irene Gross of Kenmore, N.D., and there are thirteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The funeral was held at the house Saturday afternoon, Rev. D. S. Householder officiating. The floral offerings from the W.C.T.U., the R.N.A., relatives and friends were beautiful and so abundant that the casket was more than covered. The relatives present from out of town were: Mrs. E. H. Gross and son Heath, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Adams and daughter, Mrs. Young, all of the town of York, Clark County, Wis., W. A. Holman and W. Holman, Waupaca, Ira Holman, Amherst, Clark Holman, Mrs. Libbie Holman, Mrs. Clara Holman, Parfreyville, Mr. and Mrs. Lundahl and daughters Mary and Dora, Abbotsford. The sorrowing relatives have the sincere sympathy of a host of friends.
