MAPLEWOOD This school was organized May 25, 1878 at the W. D. Ponds house. The little log school house had one door, four windows, chinked walls, and clay plastered ceiling. School terms went from seven to eleven months. In 1880 the first woman teacher was hired for $20.00 per month. The new school, our present town hall, was built in 1884 by Eli Pickett for $575. There was room for forty eager pupils. The last school was built in l915.
