Volkmann, Paul H. (1904? - 5 December 1980)

Funeral services were held this past Monday afternoon, December 8, for Paul H. Volkmann, 76, of 303 State Street, Neillsville, who passed away on Friday, December 5, in the Neillsville Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. The Rev. Gary Clark officiated at the Neillsville United Church of Christ services with burial made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

The deceased was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Volkmann. He received his education in that city and then worked as an engineer for AT&T in Chicago for 18 years. He then worked for Commonwealth Edison for eight years. During this time, he married Ruby E. Frantz in December 9, 1939, Chicago ceremonies.

The couple moved to Neillsville in 1960 where he and his wife owned and operated Alta’s Dress Shop for about six years. He then did electrical work in the Neillsville area until retiring. A few years ago, Volkmann was an unsuccessful candidate for Neillsville mayor.

He was a member of the Neillsville United Church of Christ and the F&AM Neillsville Lodge No. 163. (Masonic services, conducted by Wayne Grap, were held on the evening preceding the funeral.)

Surviving him, besides his wife, are two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Volkmann and Mrs. Irma Hanson, Both of Chicago.
