Schweiger, Margaret (8 Mar 1831 - 16 Feb 1914)
Mrs. Margaret Schweiger, an old and highly respected resident of Loyal, Clark County, Wis., passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Hammes, on Monday of last week. She had almost reached her 83rd year.
The deceased was born in Germany, March 8, 1831, and came to America with her parents at the age of fourteen. She was united in marriage to John Schweiger on Feb. 22, 1850, at Milwaukee. Twenty-six years ago they came to this vicinity, and bout a piece of wild land near Globe, Clark County, Wis., out of which, through hard work, they made a nice farm. Her husband passed away 19 years ago, after which she came to Loyal and lived here until death.
She was a faithful wife and mother of a large and gifted family of eighteen children, many of who now have "silver threads among the gold," as a reminder that they, too, are nearing life's sunset. Eleven of the children are still living and are as follows:
Joseph and Adam Schweiger of Lafayette, Oregon, John Schweiger of Texas, Alois and Albert of Jefferson, Andrew, Ferdinand and Louis of Loyal, Kate Roessler of South Bend, Indiana, Mrs. Christ Motchenbacher of Alma Center, and Mrs. John Hammes of Loyal. Besides the above named children she leaves 49 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, Father Stenz officiating.
