Schancer, Elizabeth (18 JUN 1843 - 24 Jul 1914)

Last Friday afternoon Mrs. Clemens Schancer passed away into the great beyond at the age of 71 years, 1 month and 8 days.

Elizabeth Jacobi was born in Ursholtz in the province of Prussia, Germany, June 18, 1843. She came to this country with her parents in 1847 and at first settled in the town of Richfield, Washington Co., from where they moved to Rubicon, Dodge Co. She was married to Mr. Clemens Schancer at Milwaukee in Nov. 1862. After living at Rubicon for about 30 years they moved to Hartford and later on came to Loyal, Clark County, Wis., where for the last six years they have made their home with their son Peter.

She was the mother of five children, who are as follows: Mrs. Joseph Klink of Hartford, Peter of Loyal, John of Kennan, Joseph who died Feb. 13, 1914, and Mrs. George Buck of Fond du Lac.

Mrs. Clemens Schancer has always been a faithful member of the Catholic Church and was of kind disposition. She was a good wife and mother and therefore her loss is greatly mourned by those remaining.

The funeral service were held from St. Balthasar's Catholic Church, Monday forenoon, Rev. Joseph Stenz officiating.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Klink of Hartford, Mrs. George Buck of Fond du Lac, Mr. John Jacobi of Neosha, Mr. Peter Jacobi of Hartford and Mrs. Jacob Mertes of Neosha.

John, My guess would be that since the funeral for Elizabeth was held at the Loyal, WI Catholic Church, they would both be buried in St. Anthony's Cemetery at Loyal. However, they May not have had gravestones so we May have missed them. We do not have access to church records, so if they are listed there we would not have picked them up. You might want to contact St. Anthony's Church to check. Also, since they live in Rubicon for 30 years, they May have been buried there.

Dear all, This was my great, great grandmother. My grandmother was Marcella Schancer...she grew up in Loyal, WI. She moved to St. Paul, MN, where she lived until her death in 1980. Respectfully yours,  John Hommes
