Haslett, William (17 Mar 1836 - 16 Jul 1914)
William Haslett died Thursday, July 16, 1914, at his home on fifth St. in Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Haslett is a brother to Mr. Max Haslett of our village. The following obituary is taken from the Neillsville Times:
"Deceased was born in Antrim Co., Ireland, March 17, 1838, and went to Canada as a young boy. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Maggie Johnson and two children were born to them. They came to Clark County, Wis. in the fall of 1868 and Mr. Haslett took up work for Hewett & Wood. He helped build the village of Hewittville and also assisted in building many of the earlier building in Neillsville. He worked in the woods for several years and then worked for Sam Green in his gun shop, later buying out this business and continuing in it until his death. Mrs. Haslett died a few years after coming to Clark County and he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. O. E. Counsell. Mr. Haslett married a Mrs. Hutchinson and she too passed away a few years later. He was again married to Miss Mevina Fuller and to this union five children were born, all of who survive their father. The surviving children, with the mother, are Thomas, Charles, blanche, Lynn and Lyle.
Mr. Haslett was well known to all the earlier settlers of the county and in his earlier years was a prominent figure in Neillsville affairs. He was a capable man and was generally liked by all who knew him. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, services being held at the Presbyterian Church and interment being made in the Neillsville Cemetery."
