Matthew, Charles (25 Jul 1846 - 17 Jan 1916)
After an illness of several months and hard suffering of over a week, Mr. Charles Matthew passed into the great beyond last Monday morning, Jan. 17, 1916, at 11 o'clock.
Deceased was born in Glueckstadt, Germany, July 25, 1846, and therefore had reached the age of 69 years, 5 months and 22 days. He came to America about 48 years ago. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Christenson at New Holstein, Wis. For many years he was a sailor, after which he engaged in the hotel business at Kiel, Wis. Several years ago the family moved to Loyal, Clark County, Wis., where he has been engaged in buying and shipping stock until a few years ago.
He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and three daughters, who are, Mrs. Francis Pritchard of Kiel, Mrs. Elfrida Swanson of Chicago and Mrs. Laura Schreiner of Milwaukee.
The remains were taken to New Holstein Wednesday for burial, where he will be laid to rest today under the direction of the Odd Fellows Lodge, of which he has been a member of many years.
