NEILLSVILLE--Cecelia Bremer, a dedicated golfer from Loyal, stole the show
Tuesday at the first annual "Longest Day of Golf" cancer fund raiser at the
Neillsville Country Club. The 64-year-old woman chose that day to "play her
age," and in the process earned $512 for the Clark County Cancer Society. Bremer
began playing golf at 6:07 a.m. and ended with 64 holes played at 8:20 p.m.
She walked all the way, playing seven nine-holed rounds and also hole Number one
an eighth time. It is estimated that she walked at least 15 miles up and down
the hilly country club course.
What made her accomplishment even more significant is that she had received
pledges totaling $8 per hole from various friends, neighbors and businesses, to
be donated to cancer research.
In all, 17 golfers participated in the fund-raising event. Ages ranged from 7 to
64 years will all but Mrs. Bremer being 17 or younger. Together they played more
than 750 holes and earned more than $1,690 in pledges from various area
relatives, friends and business places.
Each golfer received a sun visor prior to starting play and will receive a
T-shirt for participating. In addition, the following prizes will be awarded:
Mrs. Bremer, John Seebold and Brian Wachtendonk, of Neillsville, received golf
bags; and putters go to Reither, Matt Reither, David Haines and Travis
Zschernitz, all of Neillsville.
There is also special thanks to Michael Gross who earned more than $100 in
pledges and Brandon Grady, Jeff Reither, and Mike Carpentier who each earned in
excess of $50 in pledges.
