James Bart Sr. died at his home in this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.) Wednesday evening Dec. 24, 1919, after only a few days illness, at the age of 85 years.

He was born in Louis Co., N.Y. in Sept. 11, 1834, came with his parents to Chilton, Wis. when 21 years of age. Four years later he was married to Miss Nancy Hall. To this union were born nine children, Catherine who died 37 years ago, James, George and Joseph of Wirt, Minn., Mrs. Annie Whitcomb and Eugene of Loyal, Charles of Barron, Mrs. Mary Parks of Park Falls and Wm. of Madison, the latter having just returned from overseas.

Four years after his marriage the Civil War broke out. He volunteered and served his country three years, fight in many of the most important battles and held the rank of Sergeant.

He, with the rest of his family moved to Loyal, Clark County, Wis. 38 years ago, settling on what is now the Joseph Bertz farm, where they lived until sixteen ears ago, when he sold the farm and moved to the village, where he has since lived.

He loved an outdoor life and was never happier than when on some hunting or fishing expedition. Mr. Bart was a kind and indulgent father and a good neighbor.

The funeral services were held on Monday morning at the Catholic Church, Rev. Stenz officiating. He was laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery.
