(31 Jan 1896 - 24 Dec 1918) Percy E. Merrill
was born in Loyal, Clark County, Wis. Jan. 31, 1896 and died at
Pangsdorf, Germany Dec. 24, 1918 of influenza, having nearly
reached the age of 23 years. He enlisted in Co.
K at Marshfield July 15, 1917 and was transferred to Co. F, 107
Supply Train and served in that company until they reached the
Rhine. He was in the service nearly a year and a half. The deceased was
buried in Germany in Dec. 1918, but the body was sent across,
arriving here on Tuesday, July 20. Percy was a young
man of sterling worth and was respected by everyone who knew him,
so that his death coming in young manhood is sincerely mourned. He is survived by
his father, Mrs. James Merrill, two sisters, Wauneeta of Tulsa,
Nettie at home, two brothers, Harry at home, Samuel of Dickinson,
N.D., besides two half-brothers and four half sisters at home. The funeral
services were held on Wednesday afternoon July 21 and were largely
attended. He was taken to his last resting place with a soldier
escort and was buried with military honors. The bereaved family has
the sympathy of all. Those from away
who attended the funeral were Mrs. M. E. Green of Galeton, Penn.,
Mrs. A. C. Merrill and Mrs. Easton of Hixton and Mr. Earl Patterson
of Edgar. The latter being a comrade and close friend of the
