Dorothy Thieme
COLBY -- Dorothy M. Thieme, 83, of Colby, Wisconsin, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Mark Neumann will officiate. Burial will be in the Colby Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Maurina Funeral Home in Abbotsford.
Dorothy Mae Nelson was born May 27, 1918, in the Town of Hoard, the daughter of Albert and Irene (Thompson) Nelson. Dorothy and Franklin Thieme were united in marriage on June 15, 1944. They farmed in the Town of Hull for 22 years, moving to Colby in 1964.
Dorothy graduated from UW-Stevens Point with a bachelor of science in education and taught school in Owen and Dorchester, and for 15 years for the Colby School District, retiring in May of 1979. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Colby and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, gardening, an avid reader and canning her garden harvest. She had resided at the Angelus Retirement Community in Colby since November of 2001.
She will be dearly missed by her children, James (Chris) Thieme of Colby, Geraldine (Brent) Bower of Hilbert, Rodney Thieme of Abbotsford and Robert Thieme of Spencer. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Gina Bower, Stacey (Keith) Bower-Steffes, Jaime (Peter) Halbach, Beth Hennes, Derek (Debbie) Thieme, Jason Thieme and Travis Thieme; a great-granddaughter, Madeline Halbach; and her sister-in-law, Mary Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Thieme, on Dec. 31, 1998; her parents; and a brother, Clarence "Bud" Nelson on Nov. 30, 2001.
