Louise Luedke of Withee was the “Grand Prize Winner” in the Minnesota State Fair
Talent Contest on Monday evening, sept’ 5, 1977. Louise received two checks as
prize money, one for $100 for being runner-up earlier in the week, and then
$1,000 for the grand prize. She also received a beautiful trophy.
Louise, who is married to Don Luedke of Don’s Shell and Sport Shop in Withee,
and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Rohland, held the first audition two weeks
before the fair, singing “One Day at a Time.” She also sang this number, along
with “Bill Bailey” for the semi-finals on Monday night. She used the fair stage
band for her accompaniment, although she had not rehearsed with them before her
performance.
