The Rev. Timothy A. Duesenberg assumed the pastorate this month of Trinity
Lutheran Church, Unity, formerly filled by the Rev. Elton H. Moore. He was born
April 23, 1955 in Ames, Iowa, where his father was completing his degree in
engineering at Iowa State University. he now has a family-owned road
construction company.
The oldest of five children, he has two bothers and two sisters. As a youngster
he grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa, but by junior high the family moved to Des
Moines from Valley High School, West Des Moines. In High School he competed in
football, basketball and track and was active in the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes organization, serving as president during his senior year. He also was
in church choir at St. John's Lutheran Church, Des Moines; the Latin Club;
worked at the YMCA; and during his senior year was inducted into the National
Honor Society.
He earned his B.A. degree from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma. While
in college he met his future wife from Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Both
graduated in the spring of 1978 and a week later, on May 6, were married in her
home church, New Philadelphia Moravian Church. A highlight of college was to
study in Israel at the Institute for Holy Land Studies.
In the fall of 1979, the Duesenbergs moved to St. Paul, Minnesota, where he
enrolled at Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary and she worked in the St.
Paul Rehabilitation Center until the birth of their first child, Jennifer Marie,
in December 1980. During the first school year, 1981-82, they moved to Amery,
where they did their internship at Faith Lutheran Church.
He graduated from Northwestern in May this year and then was ordained at the
Minnesota Synod Convention at St. Paul. He accepted the call to Trinity Lutheran
Church to begin in July.
Last November their second child, Jake Arlen, was born. Duesenberg and his wife,
Leslie, enjoy family camping, gardening and outdoor recreation. His hobbies are
hunting, fishing and wood working.
