AUG 1888 - 31 Augl 1918) The war was
brought home to Curtiss, Clark County, Wis. last week Sunday when
Mr. Ole Thompson received word that his son Carl was killed in
Action Aug. 31, 1918. Carl Thompson was
a graduate of the Colby High School and of the University of
Wisconsin class of 1913. After finishing the university he worked
on the U. S. Soil Survey until he entered the Second Officers'
Training Camp at Fort Sheridan, Aug. 27, 1917. He received his
commission and left for France in January and had been in active
service for several months. The last word received from his was
written Aug. 26 when he stated he had recovered from a shrapnel
wound in his shoulder, received during the drive at
Chateau-Thierry. His brother,
Arthur is now in service in France with the heavy field artillery
of the Blackhawk Division. Carl Thompson was
born at Curtiss Aug. 4, 1888, and leaves to mourn him, an aged
