PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Wis.) 12/05/1918 Vrobel, Mary (7
APR 1850 - 29 NOV 1918) Mrs. John Vrobel,
formerly Mrs. Mary Haslbeck of this city (Colby, Wis.), died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Poplanske at Fond du Lac, Wis.,
Friday morning Nov. 29, 1918 of Bright's Disease. Mary Berkmeyer was
born in Bavaria, Germany, April 7, 1850, and was united in marriage
with Joseph Haslbeck in Nov. 1865. They came to America about
thirty years ago, direct to Colby, and Mr. Haslbeck engaged in
brick making on the place just south of the city for the next
fourteen years. After discontinuing the brickyard they built and
operated the saloon on the Wausau corner at the end of Division St.
Shortly after this Mr. Haslbeck passed away and Mrs. Haslbeck
continued the business until 1908, when she sold the property to
Jacob Berg who disposed of it to Otto Janke Sr., of Curtiss, who
sold to Henry Thirbach, the present owner. She was married to John
Vrobel of Grand Rapids July 1909, and has since made that city her
home. About a month ago
she was not feeling very well and she and her husband went to Fond
du Lac to stay with her daughter for a while, thinking the change
would be of benefit. However, she grew worse and the grim reaper
claimed her. She leaves to
mourn her besides her husband, seven daughters: Mrs. John Demmer of
Kolze, Ill., Mrs. Frank Dankemeyer of Unity, Mrs. Adolph Hannie of
Forest, Wis., Mrs. Walter Poplanske of Fond du Lac, Mrs. W. Meyer
of Chicago, Mrs. Irvine Pershohn of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Christ
Hannie of Fairbury, Illl, all of who were here to the funeral
except Mrs. Poplanske and Mrs. Hannie. She is also survived by four
sisters, Mrs. Joseph Demmer of this city, Mrs. John Frank of Park
Falls, Mrs. Joseph Exner of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Matt Roth of
Pittsville, and one brother, Sebastian Berkmeyer of Wausau, besides
twelve grandchildren. Mrs. Vrobel was a
gentle, kindhearted woman and has many old friends here who will
speak of her death with regret and sympathize with the bereaved
ones. The body was
shipped here from Fond du Lac and taken to the home of Mrs. Joseph
Demmer and the funeral was held from St. Mary's Church at 9 o'clock
Monday morning, Rev. H. Lachnit officiating. The remains were laid
to rest in Colby St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
