PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Wis.) 05/29/1919 Volkmar, Julius (5
FEB 1848 - 19 May 1919) Julius Volkmar,
aged seventy-one years, passed away last week Monday at the home of
his son, William, residing five miles west of Colby, Wis., the
direct cause of death being asthma. Deceased was born
Feb. 5, 1848 in Erfurd, Germany and in the year 1872 was united in
marriage to Miss Fredericka Grose. In 1881, together with his
family he moved to America, settling upon the farm where his death
occurred. To Mr. and Mrs.
Volkmar were born seven children, four dying in infancy. Those
remaining to survive his death are William of the town of Colby,
Clark County, Mrs. Theo. Lehrman of Marshfield and Carl of Canada.
All were present at the funeral except Carl. Funeral services
were held Friday afternoon from St. John's Evangelical Church, Rev.
M. Peper officiating. Burial took place in the Colby Cemetery, the
remains being in charge of Undertaker Lulloff. Mr. Volkmar is one
of this community's oldest settlers, coming to this section when
all was still wilderness. Here he worked his way gradually upward,
laboring long and untiringly clearing the land and building for
himself and family a home. During spare time he would assist his
neighbors and friends in butchering hogs and cattle, this being his
former trade while still in the old country. During the past twenty
years he has been ailing but in spite of his failing health was
always a kind and loving father and a neighbor always willing to
assist his fellow man. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
