PHONOGRAPH (Colby, Wis.) 10/23/1919 Niehoff, Mary A.
(21 Augl 1871 - 19 OCT 1919) After a lingering
illness of many months, Mrs. F. H. Niehoff passed away at her
sister, Mrs. J. E. Bunce in Milwaukee, on Sunday morning, Oct. 19,
1919, at 8 o'clock, the cause of her death being chronic nephritis
complicated with organic heart disease. Something over
four years ago Mrs. Niehoff submitted to an operation for the
removal of her right kidney, which has become tubercular. Inside of
a few months after the operation her general health began to
decline and the skill of the very best physicians has failed to
help her very much with the exception that at times she felt fairly
well. About three weeks ago she went to Milwaukee to consult an eye
specialist in regard to a blindness in one of her eyes, which, it
is supposed, was caused from the chronic trouble. She expected to
be able to return home inside of a week, but almost unexpectedly
she was taken violently ill at the home of her sister, Mrs. Bunce,
and her husband, who had accompanied her to Milwaukee, was advised
to return to Milwaukee at once. He immediately hurried to the
bedside of his wife, who hovered between life and death with
scarcely any hopes of recovery until the end came. The deceased was
born Mary Adaline Peters in Dodge Co., Wis., Aug. 21, 1871, being
the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Peters of Woodland. Here
she grew to young womanhood and on Sept. 12, 1904, was united in
marriage to Felix H. Niehoff, of Horicon. Shortly after their
marriage they located on a farm near Loyal, coming to Colby, Wis.
eight years ago, Mr. Niehoff engaging in the real estate business
here. Three years ago Mr. Niehoff purchased the big brick structure
on Division St., which was formerly been used as a store building
but had been unoccupied for a number of years, and started
remodeling it for a hotel. In June two years ago the new Niehoff
Hotel, which was so badly needed in Colby, was opened to the public
and has since enjoyed the reputation of being one of the finest
hotels for a town of this size as can be found anywhere. Like her husband,
Mrs. Niehoff had devoted her energies to the utmost to give the
public the best of services in their new venture. Her pleasing and
attractive personality gained for her the lasting friendship of all
and her cheerful presence will be sadly missed by a host of
friends, whose hearts go out in sympathy to the sorrowing ones she
leaves behind. Besides her
husband she is survived by one son, Harold, her parents, and two
sisters, Mrs. J. E. Bunce of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Lawrence Becker of
Woodland. The funeral was
held at Woodland yesterday morning at ten o'clock from the Catholic
Church and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic Church at that
place. Those from here
who attended the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Christoferson, Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Luchterhand and Frank Goeltz. © Every submission is protected by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act
